You want to record in a space that is comfortable to be creative in. You want a great sounding room and gear that gets the job done in a way that complements the material and the style.

You want a good headphone reference mix and everybody wants a slightly different balance of the rest of the band to be able to make their contribution the best it can be.

You want to record without losing the excitement and energy that makes the song great when you play it together as a live band.

You want an engineer who doesn’t let something slip past that you’re going to be unhappy with later.

You want to work with someone who understands music and performance and can assist you in delivering your parts to their potential best.

You don’t want to know about the technical side of the process (unless that’s your interest too) and you don’t want to be delayed, slowed down, and hampered by what’s happening in the signal chain between you and the recording.

It has to be a smooth and relaxed workflow that allows an artist to reach the space within themselves where they can tap into the core of their creative intent.

I love being part of the process but not over-ruling or taking over what an artist is trying to achieve. I understand that you need me to take away the technical obstacles that you shouldn’t have to worry about. I understand that I can be a sounding board when you need a second set of ears and to tell you what the music makes me feel.

I keep track of progress and keep a record of where you’ve reached the high points and where things can be improved.

I edit when it’s needed. If it’s needed. Often the best takes are complete rather than piecemeal. That’s an art in itself, but anything can be improved if necessary by selecting the best parts of repeated takes of a performance. If it can’t be improved it’s easy to do it again and catch the feeling that comes with a truly special take.

In the studio where I work it’s a special palace that has made a mountain of great sounding recordings over a long long time. If you’ve been to Brett Sody’s Sodypop Studios you’ll know what I’m talking about.

It’s a room suited to music making and all kinds of creative endeavours. It’s got a musical sound and it’s a super comfortable environment to make music in.

Talk to me to arrange visit if you’d like to check it out and see if it’ll suit your needs.
